Victory Community Development Society (VCDS) is a non-for- profit organization set up in Vancouver, BC. VCDS is dedicated to alleviate poverty by empowering the communities in Ethiopia through the education of school aged children, provision of clean and safe water, and sustainable living, primary health and sanitation. We are working in the village of Yerah, North Wollo, Ethiopia. It is a remote village on a mountain top with no road access, electricity, running water and health centre.
What we have achieved so far:
In 2008 we have donated
•Desks and various school supplies
•Clothing for the orphans
•Started supporting children whom are orphaned by HIV/AIDS
In 2009
•VCDS received charitable registration with Canada Revenue Agency in JULY 2009.
•Zerefa and Bisrat, Secretary of the Board, went to Ethiopia. Their main mission was to gather information necessary for the registration of VCDS in Ethiopia as an NGO
•They visited various government departments and offices to establish official contacts
•They donated 2500 text books, back packs, and various school materials to the school district of Gubalaftu of which Yerah is a part.
•They also visited the school in Yerah and the orphans we have been supporting for the last two years.
•Currently we are financially supporting thirteen orphans and we have arranged with three individuals who will oversee their wellbeing untitthe orphanage center is opened.
The founders of this organization are a couple who are naturalized Canadian citizens of Ethaopian origin, Zerefa Biru and lssayas Kidane. The couple have decided to move to Ethiopia to build a home and run the orphanage. The orphanage will be located at the town of sanka, a small town in North wollo at the foot of the mountain below the village of Yerah.
We look forward to your support as we move forward with the construction operation phase of the orphanage as well as improving the school in (Yerah).
